We name the structure to warm, and why.
Targeted deep heating for one specific structure, used for a stated reason. It is what makes the hands-on work and the exercise that follow it go further.
What It Is
Some tissue sits too deep for a hot pack to reach. Therapeutic ultrasound sends sound waves through the skin into that layer, and the tissue absorbs them and warms from the inside. Warm tissue glides better, stretches further and puts up less of a fight when you ask it to move.
This is not the ultrasound that takes a picture. Diagnostic ultrasound uses the same physics to look under the skin, and there’s a screen and an image at the end of it. This one produces no image and nobody is reading anything. It has one job: warming a specific structure so the work that comes next lands better.
You’re right to be skeptical here. Some clinics park a machine on a shoulder, walk out, and bill that as treatment. It isn’t. Ultrasound gets used here for a stated reason, for a few minutes, on a structure we can name. Then the real work starts: hands-on release and exercise, one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, every visit. If it stops earning its place, it comes out of your plan.
An adjunct with a job, never the whole plan
What It Helps
Deep heating one specific structure makes the hands-on work and the exercise that follow it go further.
What A Session Looks Like
1
We name the structure to warm, and why.
2
Gel, slow contact, a few minutes.
3
Hands-on work and exercise while it’s warm.
Why It Works
Stiff tissue that gives instead of fights.
Less bracing before you start to move.
More range for the hands-on work after it.
Fewer wasted minutes in a visit.

Questions, Answered
Honest answer: it does one job, and it isn’t a cure. It warms tissue that sits too deep for a hot pack, which opens a short window where that tissue moves more freely. The value is in what happens inside that window. Hands-on work and exercise go further when the tissue is warm and less guarded. On its own it fixes nothing, and we won’t pretend otherwise. If it isn’t helping your case, it comes out of your plan and you get told why.
No. Most people describe a small warm circle moving over the skin, and some feel almost nothing at all. The gel is cool for the first second, then it isn’t. If the warmth builds past comfortable, say so and it gets turned down. You won’t be left alone in a room with a machine running on you. You’re one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, every visit.
It isn’t counted on its own, because it’s one piece inside a plan with an endpoint. Your evaluation sets that plan, and it’s built around the cause of the problem, not around a package of machine time. Some people get it during early visits and stop needing it. Plenty of people never need it at all. One visit. You walk out knowing what’s wrong, how long it takes, and what happens next. Questions before then? Call us at (973) 453-0488.
